Senior Instructor

As a Philly girl (born and raised) who gave birth to both of my children in my city the roots run deep for urban communities. My first birth was traumatic and I struggled with feeling like a "failure" because I had an unplanned "emergency" cesarean and didn't have a "successful" breastfeeding experience. These struggles and interactions that lacked my consent and tones of racism prompted me to insert myself into the black maternal health world. I discovered there was a "crisis" and data proved that implicit bias and racism is on display in the US obstetric world. This did not sit well with me and something had to be done... My current justice work experiences include: black maternal health efforts (both direct support to families and programmatic contributions), workshops and trainings (for staff and community members), national service program management and expansion, curriculum development, management of volunteer programs, volunteer engagement and event management, and growing national service impact through both nonprofit and city government efforts.
